So my father calls me today.
Now before I tell the story, I want you to know that my father and I have had a rocky relationship for a lot of my life.
As an adult I have forgiven a lot of things but never forgotten; which has led to our somewhat uneasy friendship as adults.
The convo starts like this
Him: “hey, I was just calling to see how you were doing, since you don’t hardly ever call me and yo momma”
I learned awhile ago to ignore the attempts at guilt. If I cant guilt you about all the f!cked up f!ckery that has happened in the past, then dont try that shyt on me.
Me:“hey daddy, I’m doing okay, how bout you?”
He takes a deep dramatic breath….
Him: “well I had to be rushed to the hospital this morning:
I thought yo momma would have at least called you”
Now normally when my momma and him are into about money he gets “sick” so the fact that she didn’t call means it was something manufactured. She normally calls when its serious.
Now its my turn to take a deep breath
Me:“I’m sorry to hear that daddy, whats wrong”
Him:“I couldn’t sleep last night, I feel like Im going out of my mind”
Soooo….
I ask the next logical question
Me:“did you try an over the counter sleep aid”
He gets mad,
Him: no I needed to go to the HOSPITAL!
(is it just me or do you see a reason to be RUSHED to the hospital?)
I take a deep breath, and ask myself WHY does it always have to be this hard with him?
Not sure why, I continue the conversation….
“Okay, my bad, so what did they say at the hospital”?
Him: They referred me to a counselor and gave me some xanax…..
Me: Xanax? To help you sleep?
Him: I told you I feel like im losing my mind!
Me: oh, well are you going to the counselor
Him: you know I don’t have a job or no money
Me: I thought you had the state insurance?
Him: no, I was denied
Now everyone says I was wrong for the next statement but I cant imagine why…
Me: “oh, well, Obama just got that HCR passed, maybe you’ll be able to getchu a piece of that?”
He got pissed and said bye all fast

LMBO.. he got pissed because he was trying to get some sympathy and you being the natural comedic and instead made light of the situation.
ReplyDeleteNaw, I don't see that as a reason for going to the hospital... but from the people I hang with, I am figuring out that black folks as a whole, will go to the ER for the most minor things. Me- I'm too scared of bills.. I am not going until it's dire. lol
I'm actually a Project Coordinator at a Community Health Center and one of the grant funded projects we're working on is lowering our patients' ER utilization. I've seen people that have gone to the ER for Well Child Checks, runny noses, unable to get to sleep, stubbed toes, and (this one is my favorite) being to high. Off Marijuana, not Meth or anything like that, marijuana. And, I've run across that many times. Nothing surprises me.
